Hello, I’m Tuyen

ABOUT

Based out of Seattle, I’m a product design generalist with a specialty in design systems and a passion for digital accessibility. I’m skilled at creating action plans around a customer problem and bringing people together to execute. I enjoy learning the latest Figma features and putting them into practice. I’m an introverted extrovert, occasional gardener, and scrapbook artifact hoarder. My influences come from being a first-generation immigrant, traveling, and learning from peers. I’m truest when I’m bringing people together, guided by interests, and offering guidance to others.

As a first-gen, community giveback is important to me as I could not have navigated the corporate systems alone. I accept new mentees through ADPList.

I have 6+ years of industry experience as a product designer and have worked at a non-profit, design agency, and small-medium tech.

“During the day, my parents ran housekeeping at a motel. At night, I slept with my sisters and parents in two adjoining rooms at the same motel. From an early age, I felt an unspoken need to work hard so that, as an adult, I could avoid the adversities my parents faced.”

EXPERIENCE

My background in human-centered design engineering led me to product design, in which I’d describe myself as a generalist with a speciality in design systems.

Dropbox

Design Systems, Senior Product Designer, Oct 2021 - Present

Evolve the design system by overhauling and establishing an onboarding and digital accessibility training program. Also maintain component libraries, document guidelines and best practices, collaborate with product designers to create local libraries, and provide training and support to system users.

Passwords, Senior Product Designer, Feb 2021 - Oct 2021

Lead designer on two new features — breach detection and payment card storage functionality. I led both projects from conception to launch—involving product and engineering through multiple rounds of ideation and testing. Both features were key to getting Dropbox Passwords to competitor parity and increasing weekly engaged users by 85.71%.

Campaigns (Internal tools), Product Designer, Feb 2020 - Feb 2021

Lead designer on improving an internal tool that powers Dropbox’s growth experience engine. Designed a feature that enables growth managers to add promotions to ad campaigns. Project managed the migration of ad components to a new design system; created a regional component library to document assets and guidelines, which saves product teams’ 5,200 hours per year and supports a consistent UX for end-customers.

Expedia

Packages, UX Designer, Feb 2018 - Jan 2020

Created end-to-end, platform-level features that help travelers discover and go through the multi-item trip planning funnel. Produced artifacts of varying fidelity to communicate concepts for experimentations. Became the team’s champion for design systems as Expedia began to establish and evangelize the system. Most impactful project involved redesigning the error experience in the packages shopping path.

Washington State Opportunity Scholarship

UX Design Strategist, Feb 2018 - Feb 2018

Adopted rapid sketching, wireframing, and prototyping to solve a multi-user problem of matching mentors with scholars. Delivered an InVision prototype, Figma file, and presentation for a solution that optimizes matching and supports the growing capacity of the Skills that Shine program, which connects low-income students with industry professionals.

IBM iX

UX Design Consultant, Oct 2017 - Jan 2018

Contributed to a mobile and web redesign project for a large retail company operating in the grocery industry. Collaborated with the team to understand client goals, target audience, and business objectives. Applied user-centered design methodologies to analyze user flows to create optimal user experiences that aligns with the client’s vision.

Avvo

Growth (Activation & Retention), UX Design Intern, Jul 2017 - Aug 2017

Used insights from heuristic evaluation, competitive analysis, and analytics to form a hypothesis around how to reduce bounce rate on a high-traffic page on Avvo’s Q&A product. Conducted two usability tests to test solutions against hypothesis, collaborated with engineers, and learned how to pivot from solutions.
