I'm Chinese born in Vietnam, raised in Seattle - resulting in a culturally diverse upbringing and unique-sounding name. Meaning "determined," my Chinese name is 張秀嬋 (Zhāng xiù chán), but has been translated to Vietnamese, Tuyến Tú Trương, and finally, Tuyen, for a simplified English pronunciation.
In June, I graduated from the University of Washington with a B.S. in Human Centered Design & Engineering (HCDE). I'm currently a UX Design Consultant at IBM iX in San Francisco. As a UX Designer, I like to get hands-on practice in requirements gathering, prototyping, decision-making backed by data, and delivering on business objectives in an Agile and Lean environment.
I'm a strong believer in putting myself in the shoes of the users to empathize with them. The more I can empathize with a user, the more passionate I am to deliver an experience that supports their needs and desires. The methods at the core of my design approach include active listening, Post-It notes, data, and prototyping activities. I've had the pleasure of applying these practices at my previous internships at Avvo, Liberty Mutual Insurance, Russell Investments, Microsoft, and University of Washington HCDE research groups.
